" Our Lesson Plan is Traffic Building"

10 Creative Traffic Building Ideas

Traffic, everyone wants it and is trying really hard to get more people to their site. Good news, there are creative ways to bring people in without doing a lot of work.

1) Social Bookmarking. It’s been around long enough that some people know all about it and have a tendency to just search del.icio.us or Furl for what they want. Social sites are basically like a user defined search engine. Are you listed? Make sure to bookmark yourself every now and then and add social bookmark links to your blog posts and/or web pages so others can bookmark you too.

2) Use Flickr! Yes, it’s true, the social photo sharing site can drive traffic to your site. I now post all my pictures that I’m going to use in my post to Flickr first, with good tags of course, then I write my blog post. Once I’ve published my post, I copy the post URL and add a note to my Flickr image. I paste in the URL, hit save and it turns into a clickable URL. Now, if people find my stats screenshot on Flickr they’ll see my note and may click on the link back to my site for more information.

3) Read and comment on blogs. TUAW is one of my favorite blogs. Since I’m a Mac geek, it’s a perfect match. Whenever I feel so inclined, I comment on stories. Since I’m able to add a URL when I comment, it gives me a live link. On some stories, I may have something on my site that is related, so I’ll drop in a link to my blog post about the same topic in the comments box. This usually draws decent traffic. Keep in mind, the post you are commenting on and your post must be very related or else it may be seen as spam and deleted.

4) Forums. Use forum signatures to promote your site with a live link. Also reply to topics with good information and maybe a link back to your site for more info and people will visit. Again, you must be sure to give valuable information or people will perceive it as spam.

5) Widgets, Themes and Extensions. It’s true, everyone has Widgets anymore. Apple, Microsoft, Yahoo and the list goes on. And then there are themes and extensions for Firefox. All can be simple to create and quite effective in driving traffic.

6) Friends! Yes, get some friends who feel that you know what you are talking about. Maybe they’ll talk about you on their blog, talk to their friends about you or even interview you. Interviews are all the rage right now.

7) Industry specific sites. As noted above, I’m a Mac geek so I know lots of Mac sites. One in particular is MacBytes. I know that if I write up a review, opinion, some cool scripts or something related to Apple, I can submit my story to them and, if approved, they’ll post a prominent link to my site for all their visitors to click on. I’m sure there are other sites like it out there for cars or baseball or whatever you are interested in.

8) Guest Poster. As blogs get bigger and more popular, some sites ask for guest posters. If you sign on, they may just let you link to your own site every now and again.

9) Podcasts. Reach those that don’t like to read by giving them an audio or video podcast. If they find your podcast interesting, they may just decide to look you up.

10) Submit your feed. If you have a blog it should be pinging everywhere it can and be submitted to the many blog directories out there. A feed can drive traffic from a site that won’t allow regular websites to be added. And, quite a few of them, don’t come looking for you, you have to submit to them.

In the end, it’s not all about traffic, it’s about giving the user something they think is of value. You could drive thousands of new people to your site, but if you don’t give them a reason to stay, was it really worth it?

My ideas above may not generate tons of traffic, but they are creative ways to drive traffic. Do you have some other ideas?

Viral Marketing Tips

Viral marketing is a technique that is used by many people, yet it is still relatively unknown. Many people hear the words "viral marketing" or "viral traffic", and think that it has something to do with a virus. Fortunately, viral marketing and viral traffic have nothing to do with people spreading viruses via email, etc.

Viral marketing is simply defined. It is any strategy that is implemented to encourage people to pass on a marketing message to others; which in turn creates the potential for growth and more people seeing your message. Viral marketing also increases targeted traffic.

The only way viral marketing is similar to a virus is in the way it can expand and replicate at a very quick pace. This can cause for viral traffic to pick up, and your marketing message to reach a lot of people in a short amount of time.

Before you begin a strategy to increase viral traffic or targeted traffic you must understand that some strategies work better than others. But if you put the proper amount of research into your viral traffic strategy you will increase your odds of coming up with a successful program. There are a couple of important tips that you should keep in mind when trying to increase viral traffic, they are as follows:

1. The most important aspect to remember when trying to increase viral or targeted traffic is to give something away for free. Everybody likes free stuff, and if you are giving something away that people like there is a better chance that your recipients will pass on your marketing message. The word free alone will increase your viral traffic. As far as how long it will take to increase traffic is not as easy to determine. Some viral marketing programs take off right away, where as others build slowly. It all depends on your strategy, and what you are giving away.

2. To increase viral traffic you must also make sure that your message is easily transferable from one person to the next. You will never increase your viral traffic if you have to depend on somebody else to pass along your information. It should be automatically done via email, websites, or even software downloads. The bottom line is that you need to make sure your viral marketing message is concise, to the point, and easily transferable.

3. Before putting a strategy in place to increase viral traffic you will want to make sure that you can handle the traffic and requests that come along with it. This goes along with doing your research before starting. If you cannot handle the new viral traffic, all your hard work will mean nothing in the end.

4. One of the easiest ways to increase viral traffic is to use existing networks. In other words, implement your strategy to touch base with people who will be interested, and therefore pass your information onto other people in their network. This will ensure that you get a good group of targeted traffic to take notice of your project. You need to be giving away your free gifts to people that will use them, so targeted traffic is very important. By working within a network you will have a better chance of driving up targeted traffic, which will help your strategy spread.

5. Do not rely on yourself to do all of the work when it comes to attempting to increase viral traffic. Even though you will be putting the overall strategy into effect, you should still be able to use other resources to increase targeted traffic. Affiliate programs and press releases are two great ways to increase targeted traffic without having to put in too much work.

Overall, viral marketing is a great way to get exposure and increase profit. If your strategy does a good job of bringing in targeted traffic there is no reason that you should not be able to accomplish the goals that you have set forth.

Website Linking - The Secret Behind Good SEO

The Internet is a "network" of isolated sites joined together by hyperlinks. If no other website ever linked to your site, then no-one would ever know that your website existed.

So links (proper terminology is hyperlinks) are the "glue" that tie websites and therefore the Internet together.

Sure, not all links are of equivalent value. A link on a webpage that is on subject and is genuinely interesting to the reader, plus on a high top-ranking, high visibility website would by nature, pull in more traffic than a link on an webpage that was totally unrelated to your sites topic, or placed in an wrong position of that sites page.

This is a very important rule that a lot of inexperienced Webmaster forget. Web visitors are more likely to click on a link if the text surrounding the link it's related by topic and interesting.

All the major search engines have now started to rank the importance of websites by the number of quality websites that link to it. Gone are the days where the search engines would rank a site based solely on its "on-page" factors (such as keyword density, metatags and the placement of H1 tags etc).

The greater the numbers of links that point to a website the more important the search engines are starting to view that site. But as we have shown above not all links are of equal importance.

Search engines are currently placing greater importance on one-way links than on reciprocal links.

Reciprocal links are made between two or more sites where the webmaster of one sites says "I'll place a link on my site, pointing to your site, if you'll do the same for me". Reciprocal links are great in getting your sites listed quickly in the search engines, but they seem not to have a huge effect on the long-term success rate of a site.

One-way links are unquestionably needed to make a site last for the long term. But getting quality sites to give you a link can be very difficult and exceedingly time consuming.

A tried and tested way of getting quality one-way links is via submitting your website to link directory. Here you submit a site to quality link directories and if your site is accepted, they will give you a one-way link from their quality site. Just the sort of link the search engines are looking for.

The trouble with this approach is that there are almost 3,000 directories out there, let alone the specialized industry based directories. Manually submitting your website to all these directories is almost impossible. Plus, finding the really good ones can take even more time.

The good news is that you will not be the first webmaster to go through this sort of problem. There are semi-automatic submission computer programs out there that can do the job for you. One such application that can help is Directory Link Submitter (http://www.DirectoryLink
Submitter.com). This application list over 850 quality link directories and can greatly reduce the time it takes to get your site ranking well in the search engines.

Warning: Stay away from those packages that claim to make the entire process fully automatic. Many of the quality link directories demand a human touch to get you enlisted (this is usually done via requiring the user to enter in a scrambled word or phrase to prove that the submitter is actually a person).

The best types of these submission-aiding programs use automation only to a certain degree and prompt you to fill certain information at other times. This strikes the best balance between speed and proper submittal.

3 Critical Elements of a "Client-Generating" Website!

Quick - what is it (exactly) that you want your website to do for your business? When I first ask my clients this question, the response I most often get is: "to provide information about who we are, and what we do."

And that's perfectly fine.

However, experience has taught me that what these service professionals really want from their website is a consistent flow of "warm" leads from prospects who are ready to do business with them.

Here's the deal: You're missing out big-time on generating more clients if your website isn't set up to do the following three things:

Number One: Your website MUST answer these two questions for your visitor (and very quickly I might add):

   1. What does this service professional do?

   2. How is this going to BENEFIT/HELP me? If your home page doesn't immediately intrigue your visitor and tap into their needs within those first critical 3- 5 seconds...they'll click away, and you'll lose them, most likely forever.

Number Two: Your Website must "capture" visitors!

Obtaining your visitor's email address prevents one-time visits. If you offer visitors the opportunity to "opt-in" to receive free, value-added information (such as an ezine, special report or e-course), and you provide truly useful information to them on a regular basis, in return you'll earn trust and build relationships with these folks. This greatly increases the chances that these very same visitors will buy from you over time. (Psst! Make sure you don't hide the opt-in sign-up box on your site!)

Number Three: Your website must motivate your visitor to take action. To do this successfully, the focus of the content on your site needs to change from being all about you, your company and your services, to being all about the needs of the visitor, their biggest problems and how you help them solve those problems.

It's important to keep in mind that the type of copy that motivates action is not overly "formal." Instead, reading the copy on your site should feel like a one-on-one conversation between you and the reader. The words need to invoke the reader's emotions and provide enough supporting details to enable him to feel comfortable making a decision to either buy online, or to call or email you for more information. In other words, make the content on your site a bit more conversational!

Incorporate these three things, and you'll soon see your website churning out more leads that turn into sales!

6 Easy Ways to Cloak and Redirect Affiliate Links

You may have heard all the hype over affiliate links getting stolen and losing up to 40% of affiliate commission. All these attempts prey on people to instill in their minds that they may not be getting what they deserve. I know that commission stealing is a problem, and affiliate networks like Clickbank have taken steps to plug the leaks in their systems. I use cloaked affiliate links or redirect pages a lot not because I'm afraid of having commission deliberately stolen from right under my nose, but because I'm annoyed at the length and ugliness of affiliate URL's.

The whole idea of cloaking or redirecting has much to do with people's nature. To be more specific, it's all about psychology. It's interesting that people are hesitant to click affiliate links and tend to cut off the ugly looking part in an affiliate link before pasting it to the browser. Now Let's compare the following two links: http://www.make-you-rich.com/copy.asp?storefront=weishengwu And http://www.make-you-rich.com Which one looks more clickable? The answer is pretty clear.

You can replace long URL's with cloaked links or short, server-side redirects so that people won't feel pitched and won't be turned off by links that are obviously affiliate links. There are several ways to create clean links that you can use to direct buyers to your sales pages. Read through the description below and see which one meets your needs and fall within your skill level.

1. Directory Redirect
Connect to your web server and create a properly named directory. Then create an index.html and put a redirect code in it.

2. Sub-domain Redirect
Most web hosting providers allow you to have several sub-domains. Simply log on to the control panel, set up your sub-domain and then set up the redirection.

3. Redirect Script
Several scripts are available out there that you can install on your web page to protect and redirect your links. You may need to put the code between the head section.

4. .htaccess
This is only recommended for advanced users because it involves modifying the .htaccess file on your server. Here's how to do it. Create a properly named directory. Put a file called .htaccess by creating it using a text editor. This file should contain the Redirect command, the location of the directory you want redirected relative to the root of your site and the full URL of the location you want that request sent to.

You can find all the above mentioned codes for free. Do your research and then implement it to see how it works. I have put a link for downloading a free e-book containing these codes on my blog.

Besides creating redirect pages, you can cloak your affiliate links using commercial software programs or services. Listed below are popular ones on the market.

5. Software Programs:
Affiliate Link Cloaker and LinkGuardII. These two programs take your long, ugly link and mask it with a redirect link.

6. Services:
NameStick turns long, ugly affiliate or website links and turn them into a short, clean links (cloaked or not cloaked). It allows you to set up domain forwarding and unlimited sub-domains. NameStick forwarding domains and sub-domains are bookmarkable, and you can customize the title visitors see in their bookmark listings. I use NameStick service to create many neat and clean affiliate links to make my business look bigger.

If you're serious about your business, you need to take action right away. Redirect or cloak your links to make them more clickable. You may be surprised by how a little effort on your part can make a big difference to your online business.

Building An Explosive Mailing List

Building a mailing list is essential to any business regardless of how they operate. Both online and offline businesses strive to grow there customer lists as big as possible.

You see, when you have a list you can easily sell new products all the time. It's as easy as sending out an email blast and just like that, you have potentially earned hundreds even thousands of dollars overnight.

But building a customer list takes a lot of work and persistence. It is not something that can be done overnight and sometimes takes even years. I have been operating an online business for over 3 years and just had my online email list reach 100,000 people. My offline list is in excess of over 2 million but once again that took me over 10 years to grow.

You also need a proven system or marketing plan that you can use to grow your lists. I spent 1 year setting up a system that now brings in over 10,000 new emails addresses every month. There are many other ways as well.

You can host a FFA, join a free viral program, start a newsletter or ezine, give out a free ebook/free report, or even spend money for lists. The key is having a auto-responder or group mailer that has a easy import and unsubscribe feature. You should set this up with all your marketing tools this way your efforts aren't wasted.

Let me explain the ways above which are only a few methods out of thousands that you can use:

1) Hosting An FFA

FFA stands for Free For All. It is normally a links page where other business people post there websites in hopes of getting free advertising for there products or programs. I'm sure you have tried this as well. This has been proven time and time again to be a waste of time. The only guarantee you get is that your email box will be full of sales messages from the owners of these FFA's. That is the key. You need to own an FFA in order to see results and grow your lists. Every time someone posts there link to your FFA, they automatically receive your pre-written sales messages to the email address they provide. This is what we call reverse marketing and it is responsible for millions and millions of dollars, of products and services sold on the internet today. There are a few companies out there that you can join that allows you to send your messages to around 50,000 people a month. Just do a search!

2) Viral Program

A viral program is a marketing tool that encourages people to pass along a marketing message to as many people as possible. The definition of viral marketing is promoting information or products that other people are compelled to give to other friends, colleagues and family. By definition viral marketing is a way to promote a service or product successfully. When done effectively one person will pass it on to several people who in turn will pass it on to several other people. This is what makes viral marketing so effective. For example, let me use an e-book that I wrote. If I forward that e-book to 10 people, who in turn forwarded that e-book to another 10 people. One hundred people have read that e-book. Now if it's forwarded that same way just four more times ONE MILLION PEOPLE have now read that same e-book. There are millions of viral programs out there that can really help you in growing your lists.

3) Newsletter/Ezine

Starting a newsletter or ezine is a great idea as well. The only problem is you need good quality material to send to your clients. You need free tools, articles, reports, e-books, and anything else you can find that really promotes others to join your lists for free. If people feel like you can supply them with great quality material, they will join your lists guaranteed. You can also run feature articles on some of your members and there businesses this way they feel like they are getting free advertising. With an ezine, once you grow it big enough and establish a good relationship with your clients, you can even charge to run solo ads. This is another source of revenue. Some people make a living on the internet just operating there ezines. Takes a lot of work but well worth it!

4) Free E-book or Report

This is a fantastic way to grow your lists. By giving away something that's free that everyone has use for, you almost instantly ensure your success in growing your lists. There are hundreds of thousands of e-books and reports you can give out for free to all your website visitors in order to get them into your lists. This has been proven to be an incredible marketing tool and will consistently bring you new clients in the thousands every week. I have created an amazing report that you can use for free if you decide to. You can get more information below! Make sure you have this method integrated into all your marketing and advertising efforts.!

5) Spending money to buy lists is the easiest method but it can prove to be very costly.

And being the easiest doesn't necessarily guarantee results either. I wouldn't advise this method only because there are so many ways you can build a huge list even for free. If you become that desperate I guess you can try this method. I have gotten mixed reactions from people I have spoken to about this method. Some people it works for and others it doesn't. So you assume all the risk if you decide to go this route!

Once again, the most important aspect to your business like any other business is growing a list. This is vital to your success both short and long term. Make sure your efforts revolve around this at all times. You don't want to lose any potential future customers.

Every Business Needs an Internet Marketing Strategy to Succeed

Ebusiness is the hottest type of commerce these days, and it seems like everyone's getting into the craze. Websites abound and if your business doesn't have one yet, you certainly should look into having one made. Many people think that the internet is only for services and things related to the virtual world, but any product and service can be marketed through modems and monitors. It is essential that your business have a solid internet marketing strategy in order to succeed.

It really doesn't matter if your services are virtual or real. In fact, regardless of whether your business is operated from your computer desk or inside a building is irrelevant. You should be marketing your company using whatever means you have, if you want it to be successful. Use every tool and resource you can to promote your business to reel in sales and income or to make your venture well known and recognized quickly and easily by many people.

Keep in mind that in today's technological world, a good internet marketing strategy will make or break your business. If you don't promote your products and services properly in a manner that's swift and efficient, capturing the interest of society's fast paced and short attention span, you'll have sinking sales and a company that's failing on your hands.

The problem with opening your own business and pushing it to become a successful one is that many people don't know the first thing about promotion. How does one go about snagging people's interest in the blink of an eye? What really does work as far as getting people drawn to your website and ultimately, buying your product or service? If you've got a website, how do you make it one that people find on their own, saving you trouble and time, and not just a site that you refer them to?

If you're handy with programming or have time to surf the web and read up on how to market your business, that's great. There are many things you can learn about and do on your own to send your company into the ranks of the popular or boost up those search engine hits. Most people, however, don't have the know how, the interest or the time to want to devote hours to making your website a popular one. Certainly, you want to focus on your products and services; while being versatile and able to touch on many different skills and abilities, sometimes you just can't afford to and it's best to hire a specialized company who can handle the fundamental aspects of an internet marketing strategy for your business.

The written word is an important part of striving for success. Since most of what we discover on the internet is either visual images or text, an internet marketing strategy that will work should be geared to effective methods of using language to capture readers and have them follow links and hits to your website. The use of pertinent articles that keep readers informed is vital, as most people use the worldwide web to gather information about what interests them, what they need to know and what they want to learn. Article writing has turned into a huge industry used to market products and services and should be a resource to boost your company's popularity.

Other methods of using text to touch readers include effective and strong press releases to inform the public of your business venture. Press releases announce your company to the world and give them a good look at what you can help them with or provide for them. Blogs are another great internet marketing strategy, as many Generation Xer's and young individuals use these communication methods to stay in touch and keep informed. Think of blogs as online diaries or community forums where people can share information and opinions, which is a hot trend these days.

Whatever method you choose to promote your company, do make sure you find the right internet marketing strategy that works for you. How do you know if you've hit on a successful method? By hiring a company that's reputable and offers quality services, you'll have a good base from which to market your business, but the way you can determine that you've made the right choice is by the boost in sales and recognition you'll achieve.

Find Out Why Autoresponders Are a Powerful Tool For Your Online Success

Are your hands sore after typing all those emails?

Are you trying to keep up with answering the mountain of emails that threatens to bury you alive every single day?

Do you find you don't have enough time to respond to all those emails?

If you answered yes to all of these questions then you're ready to learn about autoresponders.

Why do you need a autoresponder?

There are a number of good reasons why you need an autoresponder besides just answering your emails. For example, autorespondersars can be used to send information about your services or products, they can answer the most FAQ's about your products or services.

Maybe you even want to offer your site visitors a special bonus of some kind, such as advice or relevant articles. All of this can be handled by an autoresponder. Additionally, you can advertise your business and then build stable relationships with your customers by using autoresponders. This is automation at its finest.

Autoresponder programs vary from software that runs with your email program to a specialized script that runs on your web hosting company's server. This kind of script may use a web page form or simply operate with your email account. This kind of script is programmed to send out a standardized message whenever an email is received. The message is sent to a particular script or email address.

Some autoresponders can do more than simply send out email messages. They can send out an unlimited number of follow-up messages sent at predetermined day or time. For example, you can set your autoresponder to send out a new message every day for as long a period as you desire. The choice is up to you.

It's probably a good idea to attach a signature to every email that is sent out. This works as a repeated reminder of your business identity every time a customer sees it. This is important because your customers can erase your emails by accident and then are not sure how to get a hold of you. The more they look at your signature, the more likely your company will spring to mind when your particular service or product is needed. Plus if they forgot your url it is right there easy for them to click on and access.

There are a number of autoresponders you can use. Try http:/www.getresponse.com, http://www.adweber.com, http://www.fastfacts.net. Or go onto Google and you will find also a long list of free and paid autoresponder companies. Personally I would go with the paid ones they seems to be have more support available and this is most important for those new to auto responders.

Autoresponders are an effective and powerful marketing tool, allowing you to make contact with thousands of potential customers. This is an invaluable asset considering how many potential customers you usually have contact with before you make an actual sale. Essentially, an autoresponser allows you to automate part of your marketing campaign and as they say say Time is Money.

How To Use A Website To Market Your Business

There are many different ways to advertise your business on the Internet. Placing banner ads, orchestrating an email marketing campaign and tactfully mentioning your business on industry related forums and message boards are just a few of the popular options for Internet marketing. Another Internet marketing strategy involves creating and advertising a website to promote your business. You can use your website in a number of ways. Some of these ways include providing more information about your business and the products or services you offer, letting potential customers know how to reach you and even selling your products and services via the website. This article will highlight the advantages of using a website to market your business and will outline some of the ways the website can be useful.

One great advantage to using a website to market your business on the Internet is that you can place descriptions and photos of the products or services your business offers. This is important because many consumers use the Internet when researching products and services. Having an online presence gives your business an advantage over the competition because consumers are much more likely to select your products or services over the products and services offered by your competitors who do not advertise online.

Another advantage to marketing your business on a website is you can use the website to not only market but also sell your products directly. Again this can give you an edge over the direct competition. Consumers who use the Internet to research products and services are often very anxious to make their purchases and they would be more inclined to select a retailer or service providers who offer the opportunity to purchase products or services online over a retailer or service provider who only allows for purchase in a store or via phone.

Still another advantage to using a website to market your business is the ability to reach a large, worldwide audience. The Internet essentially knows no boundaries and advertising on a website means the business owner can reach competitors around the world instead of being limited to their general location. Advertising via other medium such as television, radio and the print media is somewhat limited and may only reach potential customers in a relatively small geographic area.

Another advantage to using a website to market your business is the Internet is available 24 hours a day around the world. This essentially offers you a storefront which is open 24 hours a day. While your competitors may be limited to their regular business hours, your website will enable you to reach your customers at any hour of the day. This is especially important for reaching potential customers in other time zones and for reach customers in your own area who are simply too busy to shop for products or services like the ones you offer during regular business hours. Many potential customers work long hours and appreciate the ability to research and shop online after hours.

Three Solo Ads Secrets That REALLY Work

In this age of blogs, podcasts, Google Adwords and article syndication, you might by wondering why in the world an article about solo ads would be worth reading. But, solo ads are still incredibly powerful.

So much so that everyone is still using them. Have you taken a look at your email lately? Have you noticed all those emails from the top "experts" announcing this new product and that recommendation? Guess what... those are solo ads.

Maybe not like you're use to seeing... the hypey, do this now type of ad. Nonetheless, they are solo ads. And they still work.

A client of mine and I were talking the other day about his advertising campaign that we recently worked on and how amazed he is about the performance of the solo ads. "I have to admit, I really didn't want to waste the money on this type of advertising. But, when the results came in... well, can you write a few more?"

Solo ads are here to stay and I truly believe that there isn't anything available yet to replace them.

"Why are your ads so effective?"

That's what someone asked me the yesterday. Luckily, I've already been thinking about it and could immediately tell them my personal ad writing tips for successful solo ads.

Be Conversational With Your Solo Ad

I love the new direction that solo ads are taking. Actually, I've been writing ads this way for quite awhile now and it seems that it is really beginning to take off. Remember, the question at the beginning of this article about the emails you receive from the top "experts"? They don't really seem like ads do they?

I mean, we know they are, but it just isn't your regular "hyped up, buy this amazing product now" type of ad. It's more... well, conversational. It feels like the person sending the email (ad) to you is talking to you.

Powerful isn't it? I have never, and I say this with all honesty, bought anything from a short solo ad that "forced" me to visit a site. But, I do feel compelled to visit sites from ads where I feel like they really care that I visit this site.

And I know it's an ad!

Personal, conversational, relational. Write your ad like you're actually sitting across from the person or talking on the phone.

Target Your Ad To Fit Your Reader

So many times I see ads for products that I am not even remotely interested in (and I'm interested in a lot of things). I ask myself, why am I receiving this ad? Yes, I might subscribe to the ezine, but why would this person be advertising this product through this mailing list? It's a huge waste of money.

The most important principle of advertising is targeting your audience for the best possible results. So, it would only be logical to do the same thing with the actual ad itself.

Write the ad to fit your reader, not your product.

So many ads are written to tell about the product, what it can do, and how many special features it has that makes it worth the hundreds of dollars they're asking for it.

The thing I've been doing recently is placing a tremendous emphasis on narrowly focusing the ad to fit the reader. What do people in this niche need? What are they feeling right now? What will help them the most?

For example: Let's say you are selling an ebook about t-ball practice drills. In writing the ad I would focus on one particular audience... new coaches. I wouldn't even begin to try to satisfy all people. Just one narrow focus.

The ad would then take on a life of it's own. Instead of limiting your creativity, the sky is the limit. You could write from the emotion of a new, bewildered father who is stepping in to coach because no one would. Or, set up the ad like a personal letter from one "new" coach to another describing a great resource that really helped.

Focus your ad to fit the reader.

Solo Ads Work Best In The Third Person

This ties into the previous "secret".

I have found that the solo ads that work best are not the ones that are written for your own product. What I mean by this is when you write an ad for your own product, you shouldn't write the ad like you own the product. Write it in the third person point of view. As a recommendation.

The last couple of years I have been extensively testing this theory. I have an ebook that I wrote on how to write solo ads that I wrote several ads for. Actually about thirty. Like I said... testing.

Anyway, I tested out a lot of theories and writing styles and the consistently high click thrus and conversion rates came from the ads that were written in the third person. The ads that were like I was recommending my own ebook, instead of saying "buy my ebook", outperformed the other ads... most of the time by 50-75%.

If you're struggling with your current ads start using my personal secrets to write some new ones or rewrite your current ones.

7 Essential Steps to Ranking Well in the Search Engines

Anyone who has a website knows the importance of attracting visitors to that site. No matter how professional a site you have and no matter how good the content on your site is, you simply can't be successful online until you have managed to find a way to bring in large numbers of relevant visitors to your sites. That is why it is important to learn how to properly optimize your site for the search engines. Because ranking well in the search engines is one of the best ways of driving masses of targeted visitors to your site each and every day. Here, then, are the 7 essential steps to ranking well in the search engines.

1. Only worry about the major search engines

There are basically only 3 search engines that you need to worry about - Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Collectively these 3 search engines make up the vast majority of search traffic online each and every day. Oftentimes, even when you don't think you are using one of these search engines you actually are. For instance, Google provides search results for sites such as AOL and Yahoo provides search results for sites such as Altavista. At the end of the day, if someone is searching for something online, chances are they are searching at either Google, Yahoo or MSN.

2. Make sure that the search engines can "read" your site

Many times a site is programmed is such a way so as to make it difficult or impossible for the search engine "spiders" (the programs that the search engines use to analyze and organize the information found on websites). If the search engines can't process your website then you will not rank in the search engines at all, period! Therefore, it is essential that you (or your programmer) build a search engine friendly website.

3. Find the keywords that your customers use to search for your products and services

Right now there are people searching for your products and services online. Your goal is to find out what terms and phrases they use when searching for your products and services. Those are the exact terms and phrases that you want to optimize your site for. After all, what better time to turn up in the search engine results then when your customers are actively looking for the products and services that you sell!

4. Create specialized, focused web pages for your keywords Once you have a list of relevant keywords, you will want to create pages on your site specifically for those phrases. Each of these pages should target only a small number of keywords (1 - 2 being ideal). You will then want to optimize this page for those keywords. This involves writing relevant content which uses your keyword phrases a number of times within the text of your webpage. This content should be of the highest quality as possible. This will both help with your search engine rankings as well as customer satisfaction, both of which are crucial to online success! In addition to writing good content, there are other important places to "put" your keyword phrases. To learn where those places our, visit our web page optimization tutorial.

5. Get lots of high quality, incoming links

This point can't be emphasized enough. At the end of the day, high rankings come by getting other sites to link to your specialized, keyword-rich web pages. What's more you want to make sure that those links come from topically related, popular sites. There are many ways to do this such as participating in blogs and forums, writing press releases, submitting your site to special directories and more. It is crucial that you learn all the various techniques involved in creating high-quality incoming links. To do so visit our link building strategies tutorial.

6. Track and improve upon your results

Most people don't want to take the time to analyze the results of their optimization campaign. Not only is this a tremendous mistake, it is also a great opportunity (for you). If you take the time to properly track how you optimization efforts are going and constantly work to improve upon your result you will be able to leave most of your competition far behind. At the end of the day, high rankings in the search engine are the result of learning how to fine tune your particular site to the particular keywords that you want to rank well for. General principles and theories are just that, general, that don't relate to you, your products, your customers, your website, or your rankings.

7. Stay up-to-date

It is crucial to understand that what works today may not work tomorrow (and what worked yesterday may very well be obsolete today). The search engines are constantly changing their algorithms and you need to change along with them. If you don't, your success will be short lived. As such, you need to keep yourself informed of the relevant changes that are taking place in the search engine. Here is a list of 5 sites that you should frequent to help keep you up-to-date in the world of search:

www.seobook.com (very helpful and insightful blog - also sells a good e-book on search engine optimization)

Avoid Being Accused of Spamming - 2 Email Marketing Tips

Don’t be wrongly accused of spamming again.

Avoid having your email messages instantly deleted by your subscribers. If your emails are confused as spam, guess what, your customers won’t get a chance to read them. Your email only sometimes ends up in the folder or junk folder! Therefore, you must avoid these 4 common mistakes in your spamemail marketing campaign.

1)       spam-trigger words in your email messages and subject line

2) don’t remove “unsubscribes” IMMEDIATELY

3) don’t review the latest spam laws every month

4) don’t include your contact info and physical address at the end of the emails, just like the CAN-SPAM act of 2003 says.

More of your subscribers will see your emails. You’ll look like a savvy online entrepreneur because you keep up with the latest email regulations. Go ahead and use these 2 tips every time in your bulk email marketing campaign.

Tip 1) Don’t write these 10 words in your email messages and subject line, unless you back up their use with substantial information.

1- check or money order

2- 100% satisfied

3- Special promotion

4- Money-back guarantee

5- Cards accepted

6- Money back

7- Order today

8- Order now!

9- Extra income

10- Money-back guarantee

Tip 2) As a savvy online entrepreneur, you must stay on top of spam laws.

Just like you stay on top of the news and sports, be always aware of what your emails needs to have to look “legit,” not like spam. Just add www.spamlaws.com to your monthly news websites to read.

Today, make sure you read and understand the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 by visiting www.spamlaws.com/federal/108s877.shtml. By the way, did you know it stood for Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act?

For now you can do these 4 steps so your emails conform to the CAN-SPAM act of 2003:

1. Have clear instructions on how to opt out and a functioning opt-out link.

For example, “if you no longer want to receive these messages, please click on the link below” and make sure that link does work!

2. The sender’s physical address needs to be in the email message.

Usually your address is at the end of the email after your signature. If you work on your online business from an office, the office’s complete physical address needs to be in the email. If you work from home, your home address needs to be in the email.

3. Use an authentic non-misleading subject line.

Your first paragraph needs to be related to the subject line.

4. Use a consistent “from” address

Always send your emails from a specific email address. You can save time just doing it once by setting a specific email address in your autoresponder.

By avoiding the 10 spam trigger words in your email messages you’ll let your subscribers read your emails. Commercial email will get more regulated. Your legitimate emails won't be left behind because you're now keeping up with the latest spam laws on www.spamlaws.com!

Don’t think that knowing the latest about spam is time-consuming. Remember, your competitors might already be aware of them. You don’t want your subscribers and targeted traffic to go to them, right?

Combining the Power of Google Adsense and Email Marketing

In the past year, Google Adsense has become the “It” way to make money on the Internet.

But even if you already use Google Adsense on your site, you are probably leaving money on the table. Let me explain why…

Most people create a site, slap some content and then wait for people to click on their ads.

But once people click on an ad, they are gone….probably forever!

One method that smart Internet marketers use to maximize their Google Adsense is to harness the power of their email list. By getting people to subscribe to their list, website owners can continue to make money from their readers.

By utilizing the power of their email list, website owners can dramatically increase their Adsense income.

Here is how you can do the same. In the following article, there is a step-by-step list of how you can harness the power of your list to create a steady stream of Adsense revenue.

The first step is to create a topic that is in high demand. A good topic would be something that people have an interest in, or information that can help your readers personally or financially.

Your next action would be to create content for your site. The idea is to write or use information that would provide value to the reader. All your articles should help improve their life in some manner. You can create content for your site in a large numbers of ways. This can include:

· Your own web articles
· Guides, product evaluations, and “How To's”
· Blogs and RSS Feeds
· Public domain works
· Private label rights
· Hiring a freelancer to write your content

Obviously creating content for your site is an ongoing process, so once you've created at least 10 pages of quality information for your readers, you should create your web pages and optimize them for Google Adsense.

As you are designing your pages for Adsense, you should keep one thing in mind- Your primary goal is to get people to click on your Adsense ads.

So don't give your readers too many options. As a result, it is important to keep your web page simple. To do this, you should include do the following:

· Place the article on the web page
· Ad all three Adsense blocks in prominent places
· Make sure that the ad blocks look like standard text, with the no borders and blue links
· If you have to have other links on this page, include them at the bottom where there is a less chance of being clicked on

After designing your web pages, you need to create an autoresponder sequence for your email list. The primary focus for each email is to get people to click on your Google Adsense pages. So it is important to create and intriguing title. Then in the email, write a little bit about the importance of the article and tell your subscribers how they can learn more by clicking over to the site.

Once you've created your sequence of bringing readers to your Adsense pages, you should start promoting your lists. You can do this by articles, PPC, ebooks, viral marketing and SEO. The more people usually means more money, so you have to continuously work at marketing your website.

Once you have finished creating your Adsense and email system, you should go back and continue to add more content and market your site. By having a large selection of information and more readers, you'll discover that your Google Adsense income will grow exponentially.

Nine and a Half Tips for Killer Email Marketing

Author and speaker Jeffrey Gitomer says that over the next 10 years a company's email list will be the most valuable asset a company can have. I agree. The more you effectively you communicate with the people on your list, the more valuable that list will become.

I'd like you to grow your list and communicate with the people on that list on a regular basis. You'll be amazed at the results. Let me give you several principles for developing that list. Nine and a half to be exact.

1. Start Building a List

A good place to start with your personal database, whether it is from your Palm device or Outlook. An easy way to do this is by sending an email to your personal list asking permission to start sending your newsletter. Don't assume everyone on your list wants to receive your newsletter. Also, when you meet a new person and get their business card, ask them if you can add them to your email newsletter list.

2. Get a good professional design to your email

You want your list to communicate your style and attitude. Spend a little money to have a professional put together a good-looking newsletter. People will admire you and your company for doing this.

3. Have an offer in each newsletter

Tell your audience what you can do and ask for business. Often we don't get business because we don't ask for it. For me, since I design and redesign web sites, I should ask people on a regular basis to call us about having their site redesign to make it more effective.

4. Toot Your Horn, But Not Too Much

A good rule of thumb is 80/20. Spend 80 percent of your newsletter on content and 20 percent promoting your company. Your audience will remember this, especially an audience who has grown weary of being marketed to.

5. Make them Laugh

Some of the best response I get is from the jokes in my newsletter. When I get an email from someone who receives my email, most of the time they say something about a joke I told in my letter. And hopefully they also want

6. Give Something of Value

This relates to the fourth point. Give your audience something that they can use and they'll appreciate this. You still have to give them a point of action or otherwise your audience will be sucking you dry. I recently got an email from a guy who has been sending information for several years but realized he wasn't getting back enough in new business from all the effort he was putting forth.

7. Don't Send Too Often

I'm a big believer in this. I get a newsletter almost weekly from a local company and it becomes overwhelming to read their letter, especially if there's stuff in the newsletter that is repeated week after week. Give me something new.

8. Make Unsubscribe Very Easy

Let's be realistic-not everyone loves your newsletter. Give your audience a chance to unsubscribe. Making them jump through numerous hoops will only alienate your audience. Have a clear unsubscribe mechanism on each of your newsletters.

9. Forward to a Friend

Ask your audience to send your newsletter to other people. It's not that hard for them and could land you several new subscribers each time you send a letter, especially if you have content that's worthwhile for them to forward.

9.5 Put copies of Newsletters on Your Site

I'm not sure people will actually reads these but it's worth it for search engines' sake to have as much content on your site as possible. And it could get you new subscribers.

Permission Email Marketing Tips for Offline Small Business Owners

Unless your small business is situated under a rock, you've probably heard something about email marketing by now, and you may have even wondered if it's time for your small business to get into it.

In its simplest terms, email marketing means communicating with consumers through email. But there's a big difference between trying to talk to consumers who never asked to be talked to in the first place, and talking to your own customers, who at some point have said, "Yes, I'd love to hear from you."

That's where permission email marketing comes in. Permission email marketing means giving valuable information to consumers who have requested to receive it. It is the ONLY legitimate way to send an email marketing campaign, and it is the only way your small business can benefit from email marketing.

But how do you get your customers to say "I do"?

If you have an online business, or if your offline business has a website that receives many visitors, compiling subscribers can be as easy as adding a subscription box to your website. You would offer users something valuable, like a periodical newsletter or emails with discount coupons and, in return, your users would subscribe to your mailing list.

Sounds great. But what if your business is primarily offline, and what if you don't even have a website?

Many businesses think that's reason enough to step out of email marketing altogether. But what they're missing here is that compiling a permission email marketing list offline can be as easy, if not easier in some instances, as building a list online.

We have advised many clients on tips to collect email addresses at the point of purchase. Here are some of our favorite tactics:

Collect business cards, Offer a prize. This is one of the oldest, most proven methods of collecting customer information in-store. Your prize doesn't even have to be huge. If you own a restaurant, it can be as simple as a free dinner for two. If you own a hair dresser, it can be as easy a 50% off coupon towards their next cut. The beauty here is that customers who submit their business cards have expressed genuine interest in your products or services. So when you contact them by email with further offers, you know you're talking to people who want to buy what you're selling.

The one thing to keep in mind here is that you MUST inform users that by submitting their business cards, they are agreeing to receive email communication from you. This can be as simple as adding a sign to the business card drop-off box saying: "We will send you an email to notify you if you have won. We may also send you periodical emails with special offers and announcements. If you do not wish to receive emails from us, please write 'No Email' on your business card."

Start a V.I.P. Club Many consumers like the idea of belonging to something exclusive, and receiving offers that are extended only to a select group of people. The labor on your part is minimal. It's as easy as keeping a notebook by the cashier. As a customer comes up to complete a purchase, casually tell them about your businesses' V.I.P. Club and ask them if they would like to join. Customers will appreciate this if you position it as a rewards club, or a way to say "Thank you, we love to have you around" to your most loyal customers. Of course, you should offer V.I.P. Club membership to any of your consumers, as you may find, once you start emailing them offers, that's a great way to build your most loyal customers. Make sure the offers you send them are, in fact, exclusive, and that you email V.I.P. Club members often enough, but not too often to become annoying (once or twice a month is usually a good interval).

Again, when you're collecting customer emails for the V.I.P. Club, make sure your customers know they're signing up to receive email offers from you.

These are just some ideas to get your permission email marketing subscriber list started. The best news here is that compiling a list is actually the toughest part of managing an email marketing campaign. As long as you're using an email marketing manager program that's specifically designed for small businesses like yours, the rest of the process is a breeze.

Creating a campaign involves little more than selecting a professionally-designed template, typing text and choosing a few good images. Your campaigns will be scheduled and sent automatically, so you'll never have to worry about being involved in that part.

What you will get to do (and this is probably the most exciting and most rewarding part of email marketing), is analyze your campaign after it's been sent. You'll be able to see how many people opened your email message, how many people clicked on each link within the message and, best of all, exactly who did what. Now that's what we call accurate, detailed, and immediate consumer research (you actually get to track your consumers' actions from the exact moment they happen). And while you would previously pay a fortune just to get this research data, today your small business can send professional email marketing campaigns and track detailed consumer behavior for less than it would cost you to print store flyers.

It's the new age of marketing, and there's never been a better time for your offline small business to get into the game.

The Power of Local Email Marketing

As a local business owner you realize the opportunities available on the Web, but you probably do not have the time or money to invest into a full blown web presence. The obstacles and costs in building a web site keep many local businesses on the sideline.

But as a local business there is an opportunity to exploit the marketing power of the Internet at little or no cost, and it does not require a web presence.

Through email marketing you can have a direct conduit to both your customers and prospects. You may think email marketing is complicated, but that is a misconception. If you are already using email to correspond, then you are quite capable of advertising through virtual mail. In fact, if you are communicating to your customers through email, in a sense you are already marketing online. You are probably aware that a small amount of customer communication can be very profitable, and email can generate considerable income.

All you need to do is start collecting customer emails, and send them occasional promotions or sale updates. The email advertisements do not need to be coded in html, plain text messages are quite acceptable.

So how do you start down the road to Internet marketing success? You begin by simply collecting customer email addresses, with their permission. Permission email marketing is a requirement. It is referred to as opt-in marketing. At all stages of email marketing you MUST respect your customers and their privacy. Only when they have accepted your request to send information, should you forward email promotions.

How do You Collect Customer Emails?

You simply ask! As a local business owner you are constantly in touch with customers and prospects, either in person or on the phone. As a retail business you could have a clipboard by your register or pre-printed index cards that your customers can fill-out. As a service business you just ask for their email address when you make contact.

What's in it for Your Customers?

The opportunity to save money or be notified of special offers. People are always looking for a bargain, and through email you can keep them informed on the latest deals, in addition you can alert them to new services or products. This is very appealing. And customers will perceive this as a value added service, that makes doing business with you more appealing.

How Difficult is Email Marketing?

It is quite simple. If you email friends or family, you are quite capable of marketing through email. Initially your list will be small so you can manage it through the use of your current email client like MicroSoft Outlook. You place your customer emails in a "group," compose a message, and hit the send button. Not exactly rocket science. (Note: Make sure you use the "blind box" feature.)

But from the start, you may want to consider using a professional email management service like ConstantContact.com. They have a service that is free for lists that are under 50. Their next level handles up to 500, and cost only $15 per month. A service like Constant Contact simplifies the management of your list. These types of services offer features like tracking, reporting, templates and customer support. In addition, they automate the process of people opting out of your list. An important factor with permission email marketing.

What Results Can You Expect?

Think about the potential profit from simply keeping your customers informed. This is not invasive advertising, but permission marketing, where your customers have willingly given their consent to receive your advertisements. It is like they are saying, "Please allow me to spend more money with your business."

If you already have a web site then you will also want to add an opt-in box. Give your site visitors an opportunity to join your promotional list. Many will.

From a marketing perspective it doesn't get anymore targeted then this. And your advertising costs are insignificant. A perfect example is a local wine store owner who works her list twice a week with special promotions. She makes a killing, and often sells out her promotional inventory through email alone.

As a local business owner there are opportunities and there are golden opportunities. This one is solid 24 karat. It's simple, direct and very profitable. And yet few local businesses are taking advantage of email marketing. Why not lead the pack.

Website Promotion Strategies to Boost Your Internet Marketing Business

The success of an Internet Marketing Website depends to a great extent on the targeted traffic the website is able to generate. This is where the Website Promotion Strategies adopted by the webmasters play a very significant role in boosting their sales and popularity. The consequences of neglecting these website promotion strategies means only one thing. You loose to your internet marketing competitor.

The more number of website visitors you are able to attract by promoting your website, the more chances you have of benefiting from their visit. Promoting your website methodically and systematically over a period of time by following the 7 Website Promotion Strategies enumerated below will help you build a substantial following of loyal visitors and customers you have been longing for.

1. Grab users when they are looking out for Topics and Products:

The internet is chock-a-block of people searching for topics or products. If your website is most relevant to what they are searching for, and has very useful valuable and unique content then they will find you. A constant review and updating your website is absolutely necessary to keep your website visitors interested in your site.

2. Emails:

Emails are considered to be the most effective way to get repeat visitors to your website and also get new customers. This can be done by having a newsletter and organizing an opt-in list.

3. Getting users and visitors to Promote your Website:

A way to get your users and website visitors to promote your site is to get them involved. This can be done in two ways. One is to provide a “tell a friend” image in your site and request them to email a friend if they liked you website or product. The other way is to obtain referrals from your users or clients. Referrals are one of the best Website promotion strategies adapted by top marketers.

4. Getting visitors to "Bookmark".

Encourage visitors to add your website to their "Favorite" list or "Bookmark" your site, thereby creating opportunities for return visits.

5. Taking Immediate Action:

Another strategy to adopt is to encourage your website visitors to take immediate action by "clicking" or "requesting" when the information in the ad. or email is fresh in their minds.

6. Avoid Graphics and Delayed Actions:

When users appear on your website and click on something, they should know what they are in for. Vague section heads, only add confusion and desperation in the minds of the user. Always be very clear when naming section heads and other links. Also avoid having too many graphics.

7. Freebies and Special Promotions:

Giving away freebies and other special promotions whereby your website visitors could benefit financially are additional website promotion strategies you can adopt.

Most successful internet marketing webmasters adopt these website promotion strategies. They are of course done in a very subtle manner. Why not adopt these same website promotion strategies for your websites too and reap the benefits.

Driving Traffic To Your Web Sites By Email Marketing

Driving traffic to websites by email marketing is a natural desire of everyone who owns a website. After all, if you own a website you want traffic.

You have made information available, probably written articles and done other things of a creative nature and posted in on your website because you wanted to share it with the Internet community, and therefore the world. But most websites are created by individuals based around hobbies or other interests they have, or around small businesses. Unlike gigantic corporations, these websites don't have a lot of money to use for promotional purposes, so driving traffic to websites by email marketing becomes a major goal of these website owners.

One of the simplest ways of driving traffic to websites by email marketing is the signature line of your email. If, in the signature line you post your URL and a brief description of what your website is about, then it will become noticed by everyone you send email to, and everyone that receives a forwarded email.

If, for instance you sent a joke you found funny to a friend and had in the signature line of the email someone promoting your website; and your friend thought a friend of his would enjoy the same joke and forwarded it, then that person would see your URL as well. That person might have no interest at all in the subject of your website, but might have a friend or relative who does and could pass it on again.

This method of driving traffic to websites is sometimes slow, but often times it works fast. You never know, but it has the advantage of being very cheap - as in free, and requires you to do nothing every again after you create the signature line.

Another method of driving traffic to websites through email marketing is with link exchanges. If you find other websites that cover the same topic your website does, or topics of a similar nature, and offer to exchange links with them they may well take you up on the offer. After all, it provides a free service to their readers and helps them and you.

One great thing about the Internet is people are willing to help each other and in return they receive help themselves. It becomes a win win win situation, since both websites and the people who visit the websites all benefit. An email campaign directed at the owners of other websites to propose a link exchange arrangement will get this campaign going.

Driving traffic to websites by email marketing can also be accomplished through writing press releases whenever you, or someone in your community of like minded individuals have done something of interest to the rest of the world. You can easily write a press release, distribute it via email marketing to online press release services as well as newspapers, magazines and other media organizations, and include the URL to your website in the press release.

Sometimes the press release will be used and sometimes it will not be used, but it takes you very little time to compose the press release and you may have good results. The email addresses to use for this campaign are all available online and through media directories.

There are many other god ways of driving traffic to websites by email marketing, just give it some thought and you'll think of several.
